Markets Always Change. Marketplace Always Adapts.

A great airport concessions program is always in a state of becoming. As passenger demographics and expectations evolve, spending habits change. At MarketPlace we work tirelessly to stay current with – and forecast – market demand, and then adapt to it.

Merchandising

Passengers come to airports to board aircraft – not primarily to eat or shop. Yet the importance of practical retail, travel essentials, and a variety of food and beverage options in an airport cannot be overstated. Variety of choice is the difference between feeling held hostage when traveling, and surprise and delight over an abundance of possible experiences.

No matter where someone enters the airport or where they depart from it, our goal is to make the passenger journey as complete and varied an experience as possible.

Leasing

We are always attentive to changes in consumer behavior and new tenant concepts, both at our airports and across the national off-airport retail portfolio of our partner firm, New England Development.

At each airport, we customize a leasing and outreach program based on the local, regional, and national market. We then follow a structured process through selection, design, and construction for each space.

The result: the right concept, with the right operator, at the right size, in the right place, at the right time.

Design & Construction

We achieve the highest industry standards by adhering to a time-tested, disciplined oversight process for all of our tenant projects. Safety, quality, and schedule adherence are our top priorities. Opening new concepts on time is critical for the passenger experience and the realization of revenue for the airport.

Sustainability

We are working to reduce the environmental footprint of all of our airport Concessions Programs.

Over the past 10 years, we have managed initiatives to recycle shipping materials, reduce water and electrical consumption, donate unused food to communities in need, and limit the use of plastics.

Over the next 10 years we will require all of our tenants to be Green certified, plan to expand our food donation efforts, and will begin phasing out all single-use plastics.

Diversity

Building diversity into airport retail programs is not only the right thing to do, it generates better results. However, the barriers to participation for many disadvantaged businesses remain real.

MarketPlace is an industry leader in the inclusion of Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE) tenants and contractors in airport concessions programs.

Customer Service

For MarketPlace, delivering exceptional customer service is integral to all of our program decisions.

We successfully attract cutting-edge brands and innovative concepts to the Airports because great operators deliver better service.

We also invest heavily in front-line employee training, and then measure our performance frequently with secret shopper inspections, and customer surveys.

No matter the brand or the concept or the operator — no matter the airport location or the time of day — passengers must be served promptly, with a smile, and with respect. We insist on it.
